Faery – Legends of Avalon

Faery – Legends of Avalon is a fantasy RPG where you play as a just emerged out of stasis fairy with amnesia, who instead of getting an explanation about his/her past is thrust into a life or death (by death I mean the last save point) adventure to restore the fading magic of the Faery Realms.

The game may seem girly to most guys and... well yeah, it is girly, I’m not gonna lie. But if you’re a fan of fantasy and exotic original locals, you might wanna say you’re buying it for a niece or sister and play it in secret anyway.

Overall a fun (though short) adventure, with turn-based combat a-la Final Fantasy and a bunch of colorful characters as companions and NPCs. The graphics are nice, if somewhat sub-par to what the modern gamer is used to, but the environments are very creative and serve their purpose, which is to make you feel SMALL. Just navigating through a tree is a nightmare if you’re not careful, and it’s easy to get lost in the pirate deck or the many, many, MANY  leaves. Thankfully, your friend Red has a few tricks that will help you get oriented in the whimsy.

Pros:
v  Good fantasy atmosphere
v  Create your own character and customize their look (wings, attacks, etc)
v  Beautiful music that fits the tone of the game
v  Interesting locals
v  Various mythological characters as NPCs and companions
v  A choice how to go about each mission (are you brains, or brawn?)

Cons:
v  It can be repetitive, especially if you’re not a fan of turn-based combat
v  Relatively short (beat it in 10 hours my first time, but got lost a lot)
v  No voice acting (which means a lot of reading)
v  Combat is VERY easy for the most part

General tips:
¬  Be careful what you upgrade and how, because you can’t change it later
¬  Look around from up high often
¬  Talk to everyone, almost all the characters have a side mission for you
¬  Take each new companion with you through the world they came from, because they give you items if they like you

  1. In the second world, you missed a chest that's in the hive. It's all the way at the bottom, and has the bracelets of electricity.

  2. So do you get the Bracelets Of Enhanced Fire from the chest opposite the Korrigan prison, or from Limpet’s first riddle?
